C6412Compact
TMS320C6412 DSP Board with Spartan-3 FPGA and USB 2.0, FireWire, Ethernet Interfaces
The
micro-line C6412Compact offers
a highly flexible DSP/FPGA single board
solution for developers requiring
and integrated DSP and FPGA, together with on-board 10/100Base-T Ethernet, USB 2.0, and IEEE 1394a FireWire connectivity. It can
be used as a stand-alone system, or as a mezzanine
daughtercard embedded within a larger
system or board design.
The design
incorporates a high performance TMS320C6412 Integer
DSP Processor, a high density Spartan-3 FPGA, 10/100Base-T Ethernet interface, USB 2.0 slave interface, and two IEEE
1394a FireWire controllers with independent interfaces. Up to 128MBytes of SDRAM and 8MBytes of Boot Program FLASH are also included. |

In situations where
additional functionality is required, developers can extend the
capabilities of the C6412Compact using optionally available data
acquisition and I/O modules, or with their
own application-specific hardware. External hardware is easily interfaced with the
TMS320C6412
processor
or connected
directly
to the Spartan-3 FPGA.

The micro-line power
supply functions as a base for a micro-line stack of DSP, data acquisition
and I/O boards. It delivers power to the micro-line stack and provides additional
services such as RS-232 communications connector, a reset button and a power-on
indicator. OEM developers may wish to mount the micro-line stack on their
own hardware.
Networking & Connectivity
Ethernet
Texas Instruments Network Development Kit TCP/IP software can be used with the C6412Compact, in conjunction with the corresponding C6412Compact NDK Support Package (NSP). Texas Instruments' NDK software is now available as a free product download from the TI website; it is free for development and production. However, the optionally available C6412Compact NSP must be purchased.
TI's NDK software includes binaries for the TCP/IP stack, together with source and binary libraries for network applications, jumbo packet buffer manager, and device drivers:
- Core TCP/IP protocol stack: Dual-mode IPv6/IPv4 stack in binary only including VLAN packet priority marking, TCP, UDP, ICMP, IGMP, IP, and ARP
- Network applications: HTTP, TELNET, TFTP, DNS, DHCP (IPv4 only) in both source and binary form
- Application Programming interfaces: BSD Sockets, including support for raw Ethernet
- Device drivers: Pre-tested device drivers in source and binary form for the on-chip EMACs of supported DSPs.
Required to use NDK:
- DSP/BIOS and Code Composer Studio IDE (CCStudio) v3.3 or above
USB
Optional software allows the USB2.0 slave interface to be utilized by the on-board TMS320C6412 DSP processor, using either bulk-mode or CDC protocol based transport for communication with a PC. CDC protocol based communication presents PC side application software with a generic COM port software interface to the C6412Compact.
IEEE 1394a FireWire, Imaging and Framecapture
The two on-board IEEE 1394a FireWire controllers facilitate C6412Compact integration with other embedded
DSP resources, cameras, sensors, and host computers. The two FireWire controllers can be utilized indepdently and concurrently, using optionally provided software for general urpose I/O, video Framecapture, and video output. Imaging
and framecapture configurations are easily realized when using the optional IIDC IEEE 1394a FireWire video framecapture and video output development software.
